A-PLANT SECURES PREMISES FOR NEW TRAFFIC SYSTEMS DEPOT IN BEDFORDSHIRE CLOSE TO A1 TRUNK ROAD

A-Plant, the UK’s second largest Plant, Tool and Equipment Hire company, has agreed a 10-year lease of premises for a new depot on Chawston Lane in Chawston near Bedford. Providing a new location for the hire of products from A-Plant Lux Traffic Control & Management, the Chawston depot is ideally placed, immediately adjacent to the A1 and its junctions with the A421 and A428. St Neots based Chartered Surveyors Barford + Co concluded the letting on behalf of the site owners. Lambert Smith Hampton’s Peterborough office acted for A-Plant.

Occupying a 1.44 acre site, the premises on Chawston Lane comprises two industrial units providing a total of 403 sq m space together with 90 sq m of office accommodation. A-Plant obtained planning permission from Bedford Borough Council for 24 hour usage of the facilities.

From the new Chawston depot, A-Plant Lux will have a centrally based operation to expand its activities in the A1 and A14 Corridors and to supply customers in Central and East England and the Midlands region. A-Plant Lux offers traffic management solutions and a vast range of products to hire, including the very latest cableless traffic lights in 2, 3 and 4-way configurations, tandem cables and Variable Message Systems as well as standard trailer sets, traffic separators, temporary kerbing, traffic cones, crowd control barriers, remote control Stop/Go boards, crash impact cushions and Chapter 8 Signing, Lighting and Guarding with Class 1 or Class 2 signs.

A-Plant, which forms part of the FTSE-250 company Ashtead Group plc, has more than 2000 employees, over 30,000 customers in the construction, civil engineering and DIY markets and in excess of 110,000 items of plant, tools and specialist equipment available to hire from over 120 locations nationwide.

Paul Stockwell of Barford + Co said “The demand for depot premises remains strong within the Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire area. Barford + Co were also involved with the sale of another depot premises in Chawston totalling 2.8 acres and this has sold within the last few months”.
